Lunchbox bonanza: healthy meals to go.
Is your child carrying her lunch this year? Make sure it’s a healthful one! Children need a well-packed lunch to help fuel their brains at school. Ideally her meal will include 1. a starch such as rice, potatoes, or pasta, 2. a protein-rich food like tuna, eggs, or chicken, and 3. something with natural sugars like apple wedges or an orange. Oh, you can also rely on raw vegetables to be filling as well as nutritious. Let your child wash it all down with fruit juice or milk. Be sure to include an ice pack to keep foods fresh and safe.
P.S. It’s okay to pack a treat like a small candy bar every now and then. Just remember that sweets are best consumed in moderation! |
